BASIC PROGRAMME The basic programme forms the primary focus of the Gerda Henkel Foundation’s funding activities. This consists of various components. For information about how to apply for a grant, see the “Proposals” section. Research projects The Foundation generally only accepts applications for research project grants from PhDs at universities, other research institutes or comparable institutions. Research scholarships Research scholarships can be applied for directly by PhDs / scholars with Post Doctoral Lecture Qualification for larger-scale research work or in connection with a research project. PhD scholarships The aim of this scholarship programme is to support highly qualified young scholars. The Foundation will only consider applicants who have proven their exceptional talents by means of their achievements in their studies and the results of their examinations and whose dissertations are expected to be well above the average. The duration and course of the studies, final grade, age and any special qualifications will play a significant role in the selection process. Limited travel and material grants The Foundation provides PhDs with limited travel and material grants for research trips or acquiring materials for their research. Travel and material grants cannot be applied for by students or PhD students. PhD students, however, can offset their travel and material costs as part of a doctoral scholarship. Conferences For the selection of conference projects seeking financial support, particular attention will be paid to a concept that is innovative in its method and content and involves an international group of participants. Publishing aid Publishing aid is currently only awarded to especially successful Gerda Henkel Foundation scholars or for outstanding projects already being supported by the Foundation. The manuscript must be ready for publishing, so applications should only be made at the end of the project the Foundation has supported.
