Historiography and history journalism

A debate on old rivalries and new media on the occasion of the digital 53rd German Historians Convention

The rivalry is not new – scholars and journalists have forever been competing over who has the right interpretation of the past. So how does the relationship between historians and history journalists change in the process of the digital transformation? How do the two spheres differ? Can they even be kept separate? What was different in the past? As part of the Internet series “Der Geschichtstalk”, on Monday, 4 October 2021, at the 53rd German Historians Conventions – the Deutscher Historikertag - Prof Eva Schlotheuber (Chairperson of the Association of German Historians, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), Dr Gustav Seibt (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Berlin), Patrick Bahners (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Cologne) and Prof Gabriele Metzler (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin). The session will be anchored by Prof Marko Demantowsky (University of Vienna) and Georgios Chatzoudis (Gerda Henkel Foundation, Düsseldorf).
