Die historische Altstadt von Peschawar war von einer hohen Stadtmauer mit mehreren Toren umgeben, die heute nur noch in Teilen erhalten ist. Um den weiteren Verfall zu verhindern und die Altstadt für Touristen attraktiver zu gestalten, hat das zuständige Directorate for Archaeology and Museums unter Leitung von Dr. Abdul Samad ein Konservierungskonzept für die gesamte Anlage entwickelt und mit Maßnahmen für den Erhalt einzelner Bauten begonnen.
